the wallpaper of the royal tenenbaums

The Royal Tenenbaums is one of my favourite movies - I watched it again a few days ago and was struck by how lovely their home is, in a dilapidated & broken-down way. It reminds me of the home in Nanny McPhee - bright & colourful, but with a sad story hanging over. Like an old doll-house.

I particularly love the furnishing & wallpaper of the house. This is just a simple damask, but it gives such an air of opulence - martinis plus an Indian man as a servant give it, for better or worse, a wealthy colonial India feel.

In case you haven't seen The Royal Tenenbaums I have just included some images from the first 5 minutes or so - but if you haven't seen it, what are you waiting for?

I particularly love this image - it's just so indulgent! Why be outside when you can be inside, with jungle wallpaper, surrounded by people making you pretty?

This beautiful zebra wallpaper is by Scalamandre - to me it's so sophisticated for a kids room, but I love the bold red, and I wish I could have this somewhere in my house!

This isn't actually wallpaper, but hundreds of tiny little paintings. I love this! It's like having a storybook drawn all over your walls.

Looks cute, right? I think once I got over the fact that it looks SO DIFFERENT to the book (which is one of my all-time faves, love Mr. Dahl) it looks pretty sweet.

The George and Svetlana Show

My friend Debbie is in her very own two person Cabaret! She is the George of George and Svetlana.
The show is based on the Commedia Dell'Arte which is a form of improvisational Cabaret/Theatre that began in Italy hundreds of years ago - so much fun to watch! I love going to theatre, but there's always a chance it's going to be something crazy and overly hysterical with fake blood and gimps, such as something I saw last week.

The George and Svetlana Show is just a fun, funny, lighthearted thing. Perfect for Winter!

Inky & the Blue Jellyfish

I went to see Inky a couple of nights ago - it's a new play on at Theatreworks in St Kilda. It's an amazing play - I haven't seen any plays at all recently that have left such a lasting impression but have been so uplifting at the same time.

In a nutshell it's set in the 80s in the USA with a completely stereotypical 80s powercouple (who were cast and acted beautifully) who hire a Muhammad Ali obsessed nanny to take care of their kids. It sound a little kooky, but I loved it. See it!!

Juno

Went to see Juno last night... loved it! I don't want to say ANYTHING about it in case I spoil it, but it was fun and funny and great. It reminded me a little of that Napoleon Dynamite hipster-esque humour. Highly rated! See it, seriously.

In other news, I think I'm opening a store on Dawanda - trying to broaden my horizons in the European direction (or, check it out it has lots of cool handmade stuff for sale). I had a bit of a browse today, and there's a lot of gorgeous stuff on there - I think there is definitely room for some of my things though.

Also, thanks to mX, I found out about this site, Catz23 Catcam Fotos. A crazy German lady (or man) strapped a teeny tiny camera around her cats neck, which takes photos every 15 seconds. Genius. The photos go on her website. The descriptions are in German, but it's all good.

grumpy rabbit madness

I'm really loving grumpy rabbit at the moment, so much so that I'm having to sternly make myself do other designs.

I finally watched The Illusionist the other night... I loved it! The original trailers for it didn't really do it justice I think, or maybe I need to stop being such a tightarse-wait-for-dvd type person, but it was an awesome movie. I love magicians and illusions and that type of thing.

clutch-making

Hello! Another long absence from my blog, but I have a-clutch making. I have been buying beautiful (expensive) fabric lately, and as most of my creations are made of felt I needed to come up with new designs. Hence:

I like this one, it's possibly a little saccharine-sweet, but maybe that's what I do best? Available on etsy.

Also this one, possibly my favourite. I love the browny fabric, I call it bellflowers. I made myself one with polka dots, I should take photos.

I'm making many more this week, and am going fabric shopping again on Saturday and am going to blow the budget. Excellent. Sadly I have been neglecting these clutches lately as have been busy with the following...

I, along with however many million others, just finished the last Harry Potter. All I can say is "ooh...!". No spoilers here! But yes, I enjoyed it very much. It was a good type of closure on the series too.

Also met up with another Potter... Last night I watched the DVD of Miss Potter!

I haven't seen it before, I kept meaning to and meaning to and then it wasn't being screened anymore. Anyway it was lovely! I have always adored Beatrix Potters' stories & pictures, it was lovely to see them all animated. I have to say I didn't think much of Ewan McGregor though, maybe it was the moustache??

Also of note, I had a meetup of all the (maybe not all...) lovely Melbourne etsy sellers last Saturday. It was nice to be so inspired. I know it's copying, but I am going to list some of their work on my blog too.
