Free Colouring Sheets
Pocket Carnival's come a long way, baby. From selling hand-felted purses way back in 2006, to the current range of greeting cards and party supplies I sell now, there's been a lot of innovation, illustration and hard work.
Being one with difficulties letting go, I didn't want to let my old illustrations just disappear, so decided to turn some of the ones I no longer sell or use into free downloadable colouring sheets.
My 2 + 4 year old nieces have carefully pre-tested them for you and they get 4 crayon-covered cute little thumbs up.
Download them here; feel free to share, but of course please do not sell these images, and always acknowledge Pocket Carnival as the source.
Thanks!!! Penny
Glitter Tape!

What's better than regular tape? Need a hint? Glitter tape!
Glitter tape is new to the Pocket Carnival store - it's a thick sticky tape, you cut off as much tape as you need, peel off the adhesive backing and stick away!

There's lots of different colours - so far I've been using it to package Pocket Carnival orders, decorate envelopes and padded mailers, and glitter up birthday gifts.

Stay tuned for a couple of fun projects!
And get yo' glitter here.

The Crazy Plant Lady
In the background you can also see the vintage map that Chris and I had printed onto canvas and then stretched onto a frame - it took us awhile to decide upon artwork to go next to our kitchen (or indoor plant) table, but I love this one. This map is from 1744 and I love that entire sections of the world are mere guesses, that Australia was as yet uninhabited by the West.
The biggest trend of the moment is the beautiful Fiddle Leaf Fig (ficus lyrata). You may have seen them on design blogs, in rooms on tv shows, or in magazines. I purchased one as a birthday gift to myself from Gardenworld, plus I was gifted one by my mum. Lucky!
So far they're going really well, as with the majority of indoor plants I keep them in a sunny spot (but not direct sun), water them once per week, and watch them grow.

I gave Chris this beautiful little vintage moon globe for Christmas (I think inside a lot of us adults is still a childhood fascination with the moon and astronauts).

Happy New Year!
May your year ahead be positive, and may all your wishes come true!

Behind the Scenes.
These are just a few of the images I've shared on Instagram lately.
Above is an order I packaged up for a lovely customer of pastel paper straws and baker's twine. This was a lovely one to send out!
New baker's twine photography session - these new colours are slowly being added to the online store - I've had a few queries (in particular from brides to be!) about some of the pastel colours - most of them are available on Etsy right now!
Gift wrapping for another customer - I do love a good session of gift wrap (provided it's not at 1am on Christmas morning, must be organised this year) and I'm always extremely pleased to offer a free gift wrapping service for any online order. You can be guaranteed it will involve twine, washi, and Love Mae gift wrap.
And finally - my Christmas decorating at home is minimalist yet oh-so-kitsch and very on trend, essentially due to the fact that the only person who buys me Christmas decorations is my mum. This year Chris and I have a very tropical tree.
Hope you're all having a wonderful December!
xx

Green, White & Metallic Inspiration.

My new indoor plant obsession (just call me the crazy indoor plant lady) is starting to influence my design tastes. Since Chris and I had a massive possession purge when we moved house recently, I'm finding myself attracted to clean bright spaces, fresh indoor plants, natural fibers and vintage style metallics.I think there's definitely something to be recommended for interior styling that encompasses handmade, vintage, op shopped / thrifted, and a few special designer pieces. These are a few of my top picks!
1. Fiddle leaf fig in a vintage planter on Christie Chase's blog - this is pretty much perfect. I love these plants.
2. Paper Straws - Gold & Silver Mix Pack from Pocket Carnival - yes I love my paper straws, and I think all of us, kids & adults, enjoy things that shimmer & shine!
3. Verdant Canister from Anthropologie - for my tea collection.
4. Golden Brass Earrings by Moira K Lime - just love.
5. Lemon Herb Cauliflower Bean Dip by Edible Perspective - I mean, colour matching your food to your interior decor isn't going too far is it? And this sounds delicious.
6. Green Palm Outdoor Ottoman by Square Fox Designs - how beautiful is this fabric? And indoor / outdoor furniture is great (plus this won't scratch floorboards!)

New Patterned Cards.
I've been spending far too much time on Pinterest lately (which doesn't help with the procrastination), but it's great inspiration. Especially lately I'm drawn to patchwork quilt patterns.
The card below, Positive Blue & Green, is definitely inspired by the simple pattern that can be achieved by patchworking squares of fabric in a great pattern creating plus signs. Love it.

Vegan Choc Chip Pumpkin Spice Muffins.
Usually I tune out Halloween & Thanksgiving while procrastinating on the Internet - neither of these get much of a look-in in Australia. However, I realised, just today, I've been missing out. Missing out on pumpkin based sweets, to be precise. Cheray told me she'd made Pumpkin Spice Chocolate Muffins which sounded AMAZING. So I did a little Googling and blog-reading and found this recipe on Averie Cooks. I did a little tinkering and adjusted to ingredients I have, and these are literally the most amazing muffins I've ever eaten. Go make some.
Vegan Choc Chip Pumpkin Spice Muffins (based on this recipe by Averie Cooks).
Ingredients.
1 & 1/4 cups plain flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
pinch salt
1/2 cup caster sugar (or your fave sugar replacer)
1 cup pumpkin puree (see below)
1/3 cup olive oil
1/4 cup milk (use soy, almond, cow or anything!)
1 tablespoon treacle
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
100 grams chocolate chips (I used chopped up 70% Lindt)
Directions.
Preheat oven to 190C.
Mix the flour, baking powder, spices and salt.
In a separate bowl, mix the sugar, pumpkin, oil, milk, treacle and vanilla.
Combine the wet and dry ingredients and mix well with a spoon. Add the chocolate chips.
Spoon the muffin batter into 12 muffin cups.
Bake at 190C for approx 20 mins or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Enjoy!
Pumpkin puree.
I used 1/4 of a large pumpkin, and followed these instructions on Chef In You.
Remove the seeds and any of the stringy pulpy stuff around the seeds.
Chop the pumpkin into 3 or 4 large pieces.
Put into a baking dish and bake, covered, for approx 30 minutes or until the pumpkin is lovely and soft.
Remove the peel and blend in a food processor with a splash of water.
It's important to roast the pumpkin covered as the steam will help the pumpkin soften.
Pinterest Wishlist: Lavender & Teal
The past few weeks I've been using Pinterest as a motivation & inspiration tool - setting myself small time limits (10-15 minutes) to read blogs and websites and pin things I love. It makes me feel inspired, and it's great to then go look at my Pinterest to see what the recurrent themes, colours and motifs are. And voila - this week has been a pastel coloured yum-fest.
1. Imaginative Rain Sweater by Shili Confetti.
2. Black Rice, Kale & Aubergine Pilaf by Green Kitchen Stories.
3. Pina Colada Pastel by Schatzi Brown.
4. Love Chair Mint from The Family Love Tree.

Afternoon Cocktail Party + Strawberry Mojito Recipe

A few weeks ago my buddy Cheray and I organised a little tiny photoshoot so we could take photographs for her I Love You Again Vintage label, and get in the spirit of some fun Spring party ideas.
Healthy Morning Chocolate Shake
I've never been a good breakfast person. I know it's the most important meal of the day, but I'm just not a toast or cornflake kinda girl. Breakfast smoothies I do love however, they're easy, take less than 5 minutes to make, drink, and wash the dishes, and are delicious. And healthy. Enjoy! (The paper straws are the Spring Stripe Mix Pack!)
Ingredients:
1 quite ripe banana
1 cup almond milk (or your favourite milk)
1 tablespoon raw cacao powder (or to taste)
1 teaspoon tahini
Pop the milk & banana in your blender and whizz up for a few seconds. Next add the tahini and cacao, then blend until smooth! (If your banana is a good ripeness level it'll already be pretty soft, if it's still a bit hard I like to squash it a little before popping it in to make sure it blends properly. Also if it's underripe you may want to add a sweetener like honey or agave.)
Notes:
I love this drink because to me it's just as satisfying as a chocolate shake, however you don't get the crazy sugar buzz and crash.
The health benefits are great too - bananas are a great source of carbohydrate and protein, they're low GI and contain lots of great vitamins. They're fantastic for being filling and helping you feel full for longer.
Raw cacao can easily be substituted for regular cocoa powder, however raw cacao has more antioxidants than regular cocoa! I use Loving Earth brand.
The tahini I add because it gives a great silky smoothness to the shake, kinda how chocolate syrup does in a regular milkshake. It's an optional extra, but I think it works really well.
Enjoy! x Penny
