Ursa by Tweek

I was in a new cafe just near my house today and they had one of these little dudes on the table. A gorgeous wooden bear for Big Bear Cafe. I was totally intrigued (it is awesome) and when I got home Googled the heck outta the internet until I located them!

The bears above are Ursa Minor, designed by David Weeks and available for sale on Tweek. The bears all have hardcore elastic connecting all their bits & pieces, so you can make them dance.

And yes, I know, I've been blogging a bit about cafes lately, but after 7 years of South-side decent cafe drought it's all very exciting having so many new cafes open. Carnegie is the new Brunswick street, y'all. You can take
that to the bank.

Cards for Kids

Have you checked out the new kids range of cards yet? Not that I think the above card is just for kids, but I also designed a numbered range of cards.

I still have all my old birthday cards from when I was little little, but the only way I can tell which birthday they're all from is by the number on front, or if someone wrote the date inside! I think the little Fox for 2nd Birthdays is my fave... grab yours online here!

Spilt Milk, Carnegie

I have a favourite new cafe! I'm always insanely jealous of my friends who live in cafe hotspots like Balaclava, Brunswick or Fitzroy - my kingdom for a walking distance cafe! Well, now I have one. Spilt Milk is such a cute little place, you can tell the owner of it has had an awesome time fitting it out with custom built tables and cute shelving. I love the FAMILY letters - the whole thing reads 'Family: It's where your story begins.' Adorable!

Also adorable are the food names - everything is named after an animal! The cakes are the cutest as everything kinda resembles their animal name - wombats are fat chocolate cupcakes, and ladybug is a spotty raspberry cake. Too cute.

So, south-side, go check it out!

The latest news from Pocket Carnival, plus a survey, a sale, and a market!

Hello there!

Thanks for reading Pocket Carnival's Winter newsletter!
I know, it's cold, and rainy (it is in Melbourne, at least!) But, hopefully a little Pocket Carnival cheer can make you feel warm & fuzzy inside! I'm trying out a new tagline for our greeting card range - happy cards for happy people. Getting an unexpected hug or a kiss, a surprise hot chocolate from a friend or a beautiful card in the mail can just make my day, and it's such an easy thing to do for someone, don't you think? That's why I think happy greeting cards are so important! So you've got somewhere to write lovely messages!

New Cards!

Hello, babies! I've been going a little bit baby crazy lately - a few friends have had tiny additions to their families, and a few more are expecting (you know who you all are!!!!) and I think the best reason to design a new card is when I just really really need one to give somebody! Our new baby card range is sweet & cute, plus, there are hot air balloons!!! I hope you love these cards as much as we do! Take a look in our online store.
xx Penny
Kid's Birthday Cards! I still have birthday cards from when I was a little tot, and I remember which birthday they're from simply by looking at the number on the front! Love number cards. Watch out for mice with balloons!

The Survey

Share your thoughts! I've put together a little survey to ask for your opinions on a few things, and if you complete it you can win a wonderful prize! Click here to help out by filling in the short & sweet survey! As a thank you five (randomly selected) people who complete the survey will win a greeting card pack.

The Sale

Huzzah! I'd love to offer every one of you 30% off storewide in the Pocket Carnival online store and Etsy store - just use the code winter30! This is valid until the end of June (a miniature stocktake sale, if you will). A lot of our fabric products are only available in very limited numbers, so hop like a bunny!

Market

Made by Us Night Market: The Royal Children's Hospital Foundation has created a pretty special twighlight market! It's on 30th June at the Malvern Town Hall, and will be a mix of local design plus handcrafts. I'll be sharing a stall with Rabbit and the Duck - check out the market's Facebook invite too!

hello envelopes

I have been writing a blog post for rather a long time, about a million thoughts related to business running around in my brain, but instead, I present to you coloured envelopes.

My to-do list for the next few days involves writing up a teensy survey, organising a sale to say thank you for looking at said survey, and photographing a bunch of stuff. If you hear nothing by, say, Tuesday? pretend you are my manager and tell me off.

Also, yes, more baby cards! I have had that little phrase, 'and baby makes three', rattling around my brain for a few days. Possibly somebody came into work and said it, I can't remember! Anyway, I think it's the perfect first baby card. I studied a little mathematics at university. I'm glad I'm putting it to such good use: two parents and a baby do indeed make three.
