what's the difference?

I'm pretty upset by this election. Part of it is that I can't perceive any difference between Labor & Liberal (I guess apart from the fact that one of their leaders has shiny red hair and the other has abs of steel), and the ensuing fact that it makes me feel rather powerless that the way our election system is set up, one of them will win.

Seriously? Surely we have the technology to merge J-Gill and T-Abs into 1 person, with red-hair & steely-abs, and then have them face off against lovely Bob Brown? Because if their main policy differences are whether asylum seekers should be imprisoned on Nauru or East Timor, or the best way to successfully ignore climate change, then what's the point?

I think we all know that Australia can do better than fear-monger about 'queue jumping', 'illegal immigrants' & 'boat people', or, yet again, refusing to introduce same-sex marriage, or completely ignoring the crazy & scary reality of climate change.

Come on.

Could not agree more. It's scary really. I used to be a passionate Labor supporter but I think in the not too distant past there were large differences in policy position. I don't like the politics or policy of either party. As for "boat people" and all that scaremongering I want to throw something at the tv every time I hear one of them speak about it. Blah, just blah. Vive le Bob and his plain speak.

I know how you feel with the powerlessness. The only thing I'll be doing which will make me feel slightly less powerless is voting below the line to vote out Stephen Conroy as communications minister.

hey penny
you're a straight talking girl, you should get involved in politics.

and yes it has been disheartening to watch Labor drift toward the right, especially with social justice issues. How lame was it when KRUDD rushed 'the defence of marriage act' through parliament?

this is chris of corky by the way

it is sad isn't it! everyone i talk to says they'll vote for the Gill because they don't want to vote for the Abs. Even sadder is that they think there is only two to choose from!
personally i'll throw up if mr budgie smugglers gets in

Hi Penny! I love this post, and Bob Brown, and in the future I hope the leaders of our country - past, present and potential - look back on this time and feel shame that it took them too long to allow equal marriage rights for all.

I agree with what you say aswell....don't enough people out there realise the games the two of them play. I really hate that they call the poor refugees 'boat people'. Where is the compassion!
